Texas ramps up the car insurance for Spanish speakers

Not surprisingly, there are a large number of Latinos in Texas. The state has a rising number of car insurance companies as well, several of which are starting to realize that the Hispanic demographic is in need of a little TLC when it comes to car insurance quotes. Focusing on Spanish speakers is a relatively new idea and it is taking off in this state.

As many Hispanics come to the country to work from further south, Guatemala, Mexico and El Salvador, the majority of them don’t have established credit records in the US. This makes it difficult for some insurance companies to provide affordable car insurance quotes. Since insurance premiums are based on a number of factors, such as previous driving records and credit history, none of which is available for these immigrants, insurance firms are realizing that they need to change things up and that’s just what they’re doing.

What Companies Are Doing to Help

Imagine trying to get car insurance when you can’t read the documents in your own language… and you’ll understand what many Latinos who are fairly new to the country are dealing with. They may be learning English or have a basic knowledge, but the forms they need to fill out and the contracts that must be read are not easy English. That’s why several Texas insurance companies are making car insurance quotes easier on Spanish speakers by translating them.

When people can read their car insurance quotes in their own language, they are far more likely to invest in the insurance and stay covered. However, this doesn’t address the very serious problem of payments.

In the Latino culture, credit cards barely exist. Cash is the most common form of payment, but if you have ever tried to pay your insurance premiums with cash, you know that most companies don’t accept this. Enter Texas, tailoring car insurance quotes and payments to the ever growing population of Hispanics.

Some insurance companies are now changing up the way they do business, with Latinos in mind. Here are a few of the current changes:

  • Cash payments
  • Basing premiums on other factors, not credit history
  • Offering forms and contracts in Spanish
  • Providing Spanish speaking staff

Simply the ability to talk to someone who is bilingual is a huge aid for anyone new to the country. With Texas setting the example in how to handle immigrant car insurance quotes, it’s probable that the rest of the country, especially other border states, will follow suit soon.

Why Hispanics Need Car Insurance

Sadly, there are a large number of accidents each year where one or both of the drivers doesn’t have insurance. On many occasions, these drivers are immigrants who either chose not to or couldn’t pay the higher premiums that come with not having a driving and credit record.

By providing Hispanics with affordable car insurance quotes, Texas companies are ensuring that more of the local residents are protected. This, in turn, could help reduce hit and runs where the uninsured driver takes off to avoid paying, something that many states are seeing these days. Safety goes up, premiums for everyone go down.

As Latinos attempt to assimilate a new culture and language, the car insurance companies of Texas are working to ensure that they can get affordable coverage for their vehicles. This important service may soon spread to other immigrant groups, as well, such as the Chinese, where forms and bilingual staff would be provided to aid the process of getting coverage.
