Cheap car insurance is something that Heather Locklear probably hasn’t seen in a while. Back in 2008, she was arrested for a DUI and now the actress is under investigation for crashing her vehicle and leaving the scene of the accident. Since she has prior driving issues, her insurance company is not likely to give her lower premiums.
The hit and run occurred last weekend, but the details are a bit fuzzy. Locklear’s car apparently crashed into a street sign near her home in Thousand Oaks, California. The proof? There are a few things to link the actress, though she fled the scene in her vehicle.
- Her car was seen on a security camera moments before the crash occurred
- Debris at the scene was linked to her vehicle
- Neighbors reported the crash at the time her vehicle was in the area
At this point the 48 year old actress has been given a ticket for a misdemeanor hit and run. The police cannot prove that she was the one who was driving her vehicle and the accident was only reported 16 hours after the fact, so there was no way to tell if Locklear was drunk when the event occurred, even if she was in the car.
Cheap Car Insurance: Non-existent for Celebs?
These days, it’s just not that unusual to hear about a celebrity being arrested for a hit and run, or a DUI. Famous or not, those who are driving under the influence or who crash their vehicles with more frequency than the average driver, will end up losing their lower car insurance premiums.
Unfortunately, the majority of celebrities seem to crash their vehicles due to drugs or alcohol being in their system. This is a bad idea for anyone who wants to drive safely. Even if you feel you are able to drive, that may not be true. Just one or two beers can change the way you react to things and a few tokes on a joint drastically slows down reaction time.
Drugs and Alcohol Can Cost You Your Cheap Car Insurance
The biggest issue faced when someone has a couple of drinks is that they don’t realize they might not be fit to drive. If you don’t feel anything apart from a mild buzz, you might assume that you are fine. Nothing could be further from the truth. We don’t know that Heather Locklear was drinking the night of her accident, but we do know that she has been previously arrested for that very reason.
Here’s a look at how just a little alcohol can affect your driving skills.
- Night vision is impaired
- Affects the ability to make rational decisions
- Eye/hand and foot coordination is drastically slowed
- Reaction times are slower
- Decreased ability to judge where the car is in relation to other objects
We all hear that it’s not a good idea to drink and drive, but as Heather Locklear appears to have proven, some of us don’t listen. If you want to kiss your hard earned cheap car insurance goodbye, then this is the way to do it.
